Hri-Launching The Hri-Blog

I’ve been a storyteller since I could talk in sentence structure. Stories came from experiences I whipped into vignettes, sometimes raw and other-times embellished. Soon in early elementary I began creating fictional tales like little candy pieces. I read stories, wrote stores, listened for stories, everything back then and now, comes with a story.

It’s why I’m the friend who likes to dive into perspective. I’m the guy who says ‘well, here’s maybe how ‘x’ happened’. I’m the kind of guy on a first date who doesn’t care about favorite colors, I want to know someone’s desires and dreams, their fears and passions.

Whether personality or interest, I’m always diving into people’s characters and examining their psyche. I’m quite hands for a sociologist. I love how people reflect themselves off others and society; all of it forms the collective story on humanity, my personal story and the stories I create like gossamer web-strings.
 
I’m like some kind of grade-D horror movie demon who is hungry for people’s narratives. I raise my palm in some weird twisty way and then I expel stories from people like souls (Comment below if you would you see that movie).

So what do I have to show for all this writing? I’ll admit: this blog is kind of a mess. It’s like a non-profit with a psycho director and poor funding: meaning it’s absolutely nowhere. I can’t even be bothered to drift below this blog post in fear of cringing a la mode Chrissy Teigen at previous posts.

But I do write. Just not on this blog. I’ve written more novels and novellas than the amount of years I’ve been alive. I’ve written multiples of albums (although the number albums I stand by…let’s go with 3). I competed twice internationally in slam poetry. I wrote for a few standalone pieces, I wrote for publications. But I mainly wrote for myself.

I dance between this complex situation where I don’t want to come across like some bragging poltergeist of self-promotion and creation. I love to share my work that brings me joy. Another problem is that there are so many things I enjoy doing. I have a conversation like this on the regular:

“I love everything I do, but I am a writer in my core.” I explained to multiples of friends. I sound like I’m setting up a Seinfeld scene.

“So you need to cut the **** and focus on [writing]!” My one colleague muttered quite honestly which caused me to let out some soap opera gasp. I was like Lori Loughlin except I didn’t fraud my way through a degree (Hallmark, I’d love to fill in, give my telly a ring).

I know that my passions bring me joy. That fact alone is enough for me to continue my passions. But, (CHEESE ALERT) we live our lives never knowing how we’re going to impact others. And it’s honoring and humbling when an idea I create, a story I share, becomes a vehicle of discussion, inspiration or enjoyment for others.

So if I’m a writer by core…I should start exploring that core. Just like a chef should cook for others, a doctor should heal others, a social worker should care for others. Because that’s just natural. That’s being a human.

Like a college freshmen, I cannot stand here and promise you that this blog is going to be updated perfectly. In fact, I’m not standing right now anyway. I have tentative plans to keep this blog updated, but tentative is the equivalent of buying the supplies for a house. You can’t just buy the pieces and expect the house to go up.

So I’m going to build. First, let me just take my standard union break and I’ll start grabbing 2x4s.
